Don’t Laugh I’m a Giraffe: In 1989, 4th-grade students at Landon School in Bethesda, MD, were challenged to write songs about their favorite animals. Many students entered the contest, teaming up with their moms and dads to compose songs about monkeys, tigers, snakes — you name it. But one song emerged head and shoulders above the rest…in fact, way above, up to the treetops!
Written by 4th-grader Oakley Johnson and his mother, Francie, “Don’t Laugh, I’m a Giraffe®” took first prize, and the bashful but courageous 4th-grader performed the song in front of the entire school. Listen to the song: www.dontlaughimagiraffe.com
